our bird sanctuary

Woke up this morning to laughter from upstairs.

Tumbled down from my loft and smiled at the birds diving for the feeder.

I open the window, and L stirs, mumbling, in her bed across from mine.

The window slides open, and we are blasted with sound.

Blue jays, red-winged blackbirds, Phoebe birds, chickadees, hawks, cardinals.

L smiles from under her quilts.

“Sounds like Mamo’s house.”

a sign of spring

Kaye! Come quick!”

I was sitting right here, typing away at a science lab.

Closed the computer, stood and watched my siblings standing,

faces pressed against the sliding glass doors by the table.

“Robins! Like, eight of them! Eight! Right there!” M is ecstatic.

“My nature journal!” She runs from the room for a journal,

I reach for the camera.

The bird flies and my breath catches- who could capture that with a lens?

Camera set aside.

R sits, blue cape on and lightsaber at rest, content to watch his sisters.

L goes for our new favorite book, Wild About Birds, comes back.

Robins. page…

We lean in close and M sketches out her sighting in the Nature Journal.

Looking up, I catch them as the flock dips and dives into the tree all at once- perfectly synchronized.

Only God good choreograph a flight that beautiful.

L reads allowed the names, the sounds. I slide the door open and L beams.

Cheep-cheep! Cheep-Cheep!

The birds hop- so funny- from branch to branch of L’s trees, singing, dancing, flying- happy to be just there, just now.

A sign of spring.

Look at the Birds of the Air

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air;

DSC09908

they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Are you not much more valuable than they?

DSC09907

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

And why do you worry about clothes?

See how the flowers of the field grow.

DSC07523

They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

DSC07368

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field,

which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire,

will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

DSC07742

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

DSC09901

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

DSC08225

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:25-34

Ace Wonder

From the makers of The Widow’s Might and Heartstrings comes their next film that looks even better than the first two, Ace Wonder.

Based on their film Heartstrings, Ace Wonder looks hysterically funny, exciting, and ultimately bringing the glory back to God.

Saw this trailer and I had to share…

Can’t wait to see it!

An Article for You…

Many of you I am sure have heard of ABC’s new show, Secret Millionaire, set to air on Saturday nights at 7.

This last week, a millionaire named Dani Johnson was sent to Knoxville, Tennessee to find several volunteer organizations to give her money away to.

And what a show it was!

She went to a soup kitchen where Christ was unashamedly spoken of and revered- a school where underprivileged kids could learn to play instruments- an organization that redecorated rooms for kids with life-threatening illness.

And throughout the show, as we watched, all of us over here could just tell that this lady was not only a soft-hearted and generous millionaire, but a very strong Christian woman. In the show, there are shots of her reading the Bible, praying, and talking with two older ladies about their faith while running the soup kitchen.

What wasn’t shown was Dani’s own boldness with her faith throughout her week in poverty.

My mom found this article with ‘the story within the story’ about some of Dani’s struggles with the show, her story, and how in the end, she did it all for the glory of Christ, not her own glory.

“Why this Secret Millionaire Went Public” at Christianity Today.

Third Day Video

Found this video on Third Day’s new song, Children of God, through a blog I follow called Unto Him We Live.

Like my family, God called them to adopt and it has radically and powerfully changed them.

This video captures exactly what adoption is- and how all who are in Christ have been adopted as well. Made me smile at all that God has done.

Quick note- If you are getting this post through email and can’t see the video, click here.

just today

today was just today-

a busy happy funny laughing crazy good-news day.

trekking to the ikea store where meatballs and sofas sit just aisles from each other.

daddy’s last text to say he loves us all with the giddiness to get to haiti evident just in the way he typed.

mom hanging up her dragonfly hooks, bird feeder, and the praising joy of this new home in her eyes.

and her patience amidst temper tantrums. she amazes me.

building bookshelves with L and decorating new desks with M, a new dresser and a giggly boy with a belly laugh that will make you smile-guaranteed.

Papa all clear of cancer and headed home tomorrow to a happy Mamo and two red-golden dogs.

“This is the day the Lord has made!”

The Lord made this day to be just what it was-

he made it- designed it- walked us through it-

this happy busy laughing going-places good-news day.

So I “rejoice and be glad in it…”

because all days that the Lord has made

are good days.

hmm…

Well, with the camera in Haiti this week capturing the moments there, I have an extra challenge before me:

Use only words.

hmm….

I love a challenge.

Hey there everyone!

Today at 11:40, my dad along with 11 other people from our church are headed off to Haiti! All of us at home are excited to hear how God uses them on this trip and see their pictures when they return.

They will be working with TouchGlobal and Samaritan’s Purse to help build houses, run a VBS, and help teach a discipleship seminar. They are going to be gone for ten days and will return on the 13th.

Please pray that they all make it through customs, security, and get into Haiti with ease. Pray for unity in the group and a desire to do what needs to be done, as well as joyful spirits ready to speak about the gospel.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

a quote, a birthday, a new house

A week ago on Friday I turned 17.

DSC01123

We had been in our new house one week to the day.

I thought about all that God had taught me over the last year.

All that he is still trying to teach me.

DSC01151

My friend Betsy sent me a card in the mail, wishing me another great year.

Inside, she enclosed a bookmark.

I was amazed. How did she know that this was what I had been learning, trying to capture for the last year?

DSC01157

Learning that every little detail is a gift from God.

“Every hour of the day

and night

is

an unspeakable,

perfect

miracle.”

A miracle.

So I take my time, clicking way too many pictures, and just looking for daily miracles.

As He says,

“Seek and you will find…”

I found.

(And after trying for a long time, I finally got it… caught that smile on camera)
