Mini Golf- Mamo Camp Day 4 (pt 2)

The wonder and the YES! of watching the golf ball roll right to the hole…

DSC03957

the laughter as we, all 8 of us, try and get around the golf course without holding anyone up…

just happy.

Swimming- Mamo Camp Day 3 (pt. 5) :)

DSC03890

After a day kayaking, racing, and enjoying some DQ, we decided that the final touch would be to paddle and pontoon out behind the island and enjoy a while enjoying the lake.

DSC03891DSC03893DSC03895DSC03896DSC03898

I had decided not to go swimming and spend some time floating in the kayak…

DSC03901

DSC03904

However, I only lasted about 10 minutes when there were suddenly splash bombs and water balloons flying, and in I went.

DSC03906

The dogs weren’t too happy about this whole idea of not being able to touch, so after a while they landed up on the boat. Maggie-tude didn’t want to come out of the water- she is so funny! She doesn’t like not being able to see all of her kids. So for the first time ever, she climbed up onto the back of the pontoon- on guard and her eye on each of us.

Perfect end to a busy day at the lake…

The Flight of the Bumble Bee- Mamo Camp Day 4 (pt. 1)

My sisters, cousins, and I spent the last week up north at our grandparents’ cabin on the lake. It is such a blessing to have grandparents that are willing to take all 5 of us, ages ranging from 5 to 17! This was the 11th annual running of what we call “Mamo Camp”.

And what a week we had!

Over the next couple of days or so I hope to let you in on what we did that week through some pictures, stories, and funny happenings over here. Enjoy!

Mamo and Papa have a beautiful old Victrola record player in their living room with dozens of records to dance your socks off to.

So of course, we selected a few of our favorites to play and jam to in the living room.

(And so for your listening entertainment, I have also added, on each song’s name, a link to a YouTube video of the song. :) Enjoy!)

Our unanimous favorite was “The Flight of the Bumble Bee”.

A close second was “The Woodchopper’s Ball”.

Coming in third place was the classic “Big Wig in the Wigwam”.DSC03868

And our honorable mentions were “How Ya Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm”…

and “Let’s Dance- Fox Trot”. Congratulations to our winners and better luck next year to all the rest!

Gotta love them golden oldies…

One of my grandpa’s friends from his antique car club was at the DQ at the same time we were… and is this not the coolest fire truck EVER???

DSC03851

He had it painted and redone, and it looks absolutely beautiful… and like it would be a lot of fun to ride in!

DSC03852

And isn’t the name on the side just simply perfect?

DSC03853

DSC03854

I’m a history geek, so the idea that he had had the place and date of when this fire-engine was used on the side made me so thrilled…

DSC03855

and I had to see if I could find a similar picture online of back-in-the-day- and I did!

DSC03851

totally AWESOME.

TOTALLY.

One more tradition that continues each year is to ‘battle it out’ at the racetrack- go kart style!

DSC03831

Jay and Miss M are almost tall enough to drive the bigger cars, but until then they are granted exclusive access to the cars more that are more their size.

DSC03834

It’s great because they get the track to themselves-

DSC03837

The taller of the cousins (me and L) were at the racetrack with the bigger, slightly faster cars. Papa and T-man were able to join us as well as they cruised around in a two-passenger car.

DSC03838

It is so much fun! You feel as though the car were going 70 miles an hour as you careen around the track.

DSC03841

one thing that we love about the track is that even the smallest can drive a racecar… ;)

DSC03842

(many thank you’s to Mamo and Grandpa for the photos in this post!)

DSC03845

Each of us were given enough tickets for two races. On the second round for me and L, Mamo was able to join us on the track. Man, does she cruise! No brake! The camera could barely capture her as she whizzed around the corner…

DSC03849

and spun out! Apparently someone tried to pass her on the inside right before a hair-pin turn, and she didn’t want to let him through, so she hit the gas and spun. Too funny…

DSC03848

After the races we were off to DQ…

but wait!

That’s a story for another post…

:)
