Mother’s Day 2013

IMG_7796IMG_7800IMG_7802IMG_7804IMG_7806IMG_7807IMG_7810IMG_7815IMG_7860

This year for Mother’s day my wonderful mom had the fabulous idea of going to the “Sheep and Wool Festival” and I do have to say that it was simply lovely. There were sheep things everywhere. And really, how could you not smile at people with sheep hats, barns full of roving, smiling llamas and sleepy sheep? It was beautifully simple and so totally us.  We were all inspired. Since then, I think we’ve all been caught thinking to ourselves on whether or not we could possibly manage to fit a few llamas and sheep onto our lot. While that may be a few years down the road, it’s always good to dream.

We are so totally blessed to have a Mom who loves us so much. It would take me all year to tell you about how amazing she is… Most mornings when I begrudgingly roll out of bed and stumble to the kitchen, there she is… smiling with a pottery mug full of coffee and a joy that’s infectious. She’s a strong follower of Christ that constantly challenges me and encourages me at the same time. We’re pretty much opposites, so while I can get on her nerves (and vice versa :) ) we still manage to have a great time. It’s always an adventure, but it’s been a great one, speed bumps and all.

Happy Mothers Day Mom!

what we watched tonight

PICT3629

I must’ve left it at Granny and Grandpa’s house, because try as I might, I couldn’t find the camera.

and of all the nights, too.

Oh well.

So then I got to thinking that maybe I could just… tell you what it was like.

You know, try and get these thoughts and mental pictures of mine into words.

So, here goes nothing.

Tonight we were all in a mess about what movie to watch. So we each went to our separate screen and watched our separate films.

At about 10 o’ clock, we found ourselves, the three girls together, standing in the kitchen, looking out the sliding glass door.

Fireworks were going up all over the town. And it was beautiful.

Pulling up our kitchen stools, we sat and watched them together.

…(enter mental photograph)… :)

L and M were perched on their stools, chatting in between the booms and sparkles. The kitchen was dimly lit, only one light on over the sink. All you could see were their silhouettes.  Outside in the middle-ground, the lot next door was cast in a green grey light by that one street lamp on the corner. Across the street and field, the Candy Land houses shone, and above them echoed out flashes of green, silver, blue and red. All so fast you could blink and miss it.

Standing behind them, I watched as they oohed and aahed at the colors and bright moments of light, then laughed.

And right then, I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.

From the far distance, you would catch glimpses of color, a flash of silver then the echoing boom. On the right over slumberland some ‘whistler’ fireworks shot into the sky. People cheered across the way as 5 in a row shot up, swirled, boomed, and exploded.

I tell you, we could see the world from right there. All those fireworks being shot into the warm (hot) night, and we just sat, watching from our kitchen.

We did a quick history quiz ( ;) ) on July 4th dates, people, and places. They aced it, of course :) .

Then when the booms and crackles started to fade off, we each started to walk towards our rooms, glancing over our shoulders to get one last glimpse of the beautiful fireworks displays.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

May the Lord bless you on our Nation’s 235th Birthday!

Thousand Blessings

This year will be the first year that I am going to name.

I was thinking about it, and praying, and this year will be the year of gratitude.

“Give thanks in all circumstances…”

It’s hard. I’ve come to realize that already.

Like the last nights of 2 am and my eyes open wide…

learning to give thanks in the dark when you are tired is hard.

And in the good things, too. Simply remembering to give thanks for them all this year.

So I’m starting over, counting endless blessings again.

1000 Blessings Recount….

The uncountable, continual blessing… #1 to #1001….

Christ… What you are… who you are… thank you….

Christmas…

DSC09828

What a blessed Christmas we had this year!

After such a fun time at Granny and Grandpa’s on Christmas Eve, we arrived home late and woke up far too early. :)

At 6:40, I woke with a start and a jump of giddiness. L was soon awake, and we spent the next half hour talking about how excited we were for the day.

Footsteps down the stairs and M was in the room with us, building Legos and listening to music at 7:15.

A bit later, Mom, Dad, and R were up and we opened gifts.

How blessed we are!

One of our favorites was one from Grandpa E way out in Washington.

DSC09699

He collected 4 sets of 50 state quarters! We were AMAZED! And best of all was his handwriting written to each of us in the corner of the collection.

Breakfast was over, and anchors away as we headed off to Mamo and Papa’s cabin.

The two and a half hours couldn’t go fast enough. We marveled at the lack of snow, saying we should have carted some up here for Mo and Po.

Snacks were made by the fire, chat ensued, and gifts to the grandparents handed out.

Expectancy to see if they would like their gifts hovered, and was met with laughter and shouts at the opening of the paper.

Our favorite gift find of the season… Mamo loves birds, and we love to watch them come in multitudes to her feeder.

So we found the mug just right for her coffee in the morning.

DSC09743

Like Mamo said- “That bird doesn’t say cheep-cheep, but a deep, long, chu-weer…chu-weer…”

DSC09764

Mamo brought out the annual basket of canning delights- her gift to my dad especially. I see toast with homemade grape jelly coming soon…

DSC09787

After snacks, chat, and listening to R play with his new cars, we all settled in by the fireplace before dinner.

Those are my favorite times at the lake- the whole family sitting around talking about life and family history and food…wonderful.

Before dinner, Papa and M went out to rev up the new Kitty Cat snowmobile and take her for a spin… that was so cool to watch…

DSC09804

We all sat in front of the big kitchen windows overlooking the front yard and laughed as M spun around on the little sled.

After a wonderful dinner, we gathered in the TV room to watch Elf, one of our personal favorites for Christmas funnies!

DSC09833

R went to bed, and again we found ourselves in the living room with the fireplace going, and chat and laughter ringing through the vaulted ceilings.

Crawling into bed that night up in the loft, I was thinking and there was just one thing missing from Christmas this year.

I jump up, grabbed my Bible.

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

DSC09791

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

DSC09371

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Christmas Eve…

DSC09563

Arrived right on time after the Christmas Eve service where Granny sang out wonder at the new King, all 12 stockings filling the fireplace…

DSC09567

the table was already set and the snacks awaited snacking…

DSC09565

Family talk and cousins everywhere, the famous dill dip by Granny devoured and thinking that there was more food to come?

DSC09572

Giggles and shouts of THANK YOU as gifts erupted from their boxes making everyone smile

DSC09637

R, sleepy and behaving so well, finds a warm Grandpa lap to climb onto to watch the happenings and I wonder at this family built by relation and adoption.

DSC09688

One gift made the most giggles…

the Elvis ornament for Uncle Doug as it hung on Granny and Grandpa’s gold trimmed tree, fitting in perfect and squinting to find it.

DSC09665

Desserts came and went to stomachs happy.

We hug and wish Merry Christmas! as we swing full force of us six out the door.

The van chugs home and R sleeps in his pajamas next to me, the rest sing Christmas carols and the glory of the night fills the car.
